6/21/15 Muir Woods & Sausalito

"When we try to pick out anything by itself, we find it hitched to everything else in the universe." (MY FIRST SUMMER IN THE SIERRA, pg.326 by John Muir)
Today we took a tour bus up to Muir Woods.  On the way we stopped for a great view of the Golden Gate Bridge.
Amazing that there was no fog!

The forest was amazing!  Use the NPS link to learn more about the old growth redwood forest here.  I could have stayed there all day!  I bought a redwood tree sapling to plant in my classroom  - hope it survives the trip home.

Forest selfie.

Love the ferns in the foreground!

Trees are too tall to see the top.

Ranger who taught us about burls.

Next the tour bus took us to Sausalito, CA.  We had beautiful views of the bay and enjoyed various art exhibits from Dr. Seuss to rock stacking.

View toward the Bay Bridge.

Panoramic shot of the bay.

The Lorax seemed appropriate after our morning with the trees.

How does he do that?

Ferry Port

We skipped the tour bus ride home and took the ferry instead.  Windy!!  However, it was worth it for the great views of the Golden Gate and Alcatraz.

Our Golden Gate Ferry Boat.

View from the ferry.

This may be the closest we get to Alcatraz because all tickets are sold out through July.
